Favorite Body Cream Moisturizers for Super Dry Skin

Do you struggle with dry, ashy skin on your body? Are body lotions not giving you the moisturized skin you want? If so, you might have some luck with applying something thicker, like a body cream.

There are lots of nourishing body creams that provide deeper and longer-lasting moisture for your skin.

One of the perks of working in dermatology was that I got to try a lot of moisturizing body creams, including ones for sensitive skin. Below are some of my favorites that I’ve tried! Each product image is linked so you can read more about it and where to purchase; the links are not affiliate or sponsored links.

Before we get started, I want to share one of the best tips to improve dry skin. Try applying your body cream (or lotion) on slightly damp skin instead of completely dry skin; this is especially good to do right after a bath or shower. The leftover water will hydrate your skin while your body cream helps lock in that moisture.

Now that you know how to apply these creams, let’s jump into this list!

1. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

Price: $17 for 16 oz

Available at: Target, Walmart, Ulta, and most drugstores

Why you’ll like it:

  • Fights dry skin with moisturizing glycerin, ceramides, and cholesterol, and hydrating sodium hyaluronate (a form of the popular ingredient, hyaluronic acid)

  • A nourishing cream that helps restore your skin’s natural protective barrier to prevent dryness, all without being too greasy

  • Can be applied on the face, though it may be too thick for some people’s facial skin

2. Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream

Price: $19 for 16 oz

Available at: Amazon, Target, Walmart, and most drugstores

Why you’ll like it:

  • Repairs dry skin with moisturizing glycerin, shea butter, ceramides, and cholesterol, to provide 48 hour moisture

  • Contains lactic acid to help exfoliate dry/rough skin and moisturize, and urea to help your skin hold on to water

  • Free of fragrances, dyes, and parabens

3. Eucerin Original Healing Rich Cream

Price: $19 for 16 fl oz

Available at: Amazon, Target, Walmart, and most drugstores

Why you’ll like it:

  • Designed for extremely dry skin, and is a richer/thicker consistency than the above Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream. After trying all of these creams, this the thickest one on this list (in my opinion)

  • Locks in moisture using petrolatum and mineral oil

  • This fragrance free cream has been around for a few decades and is a long-time favorite for some people

4. Eucerin Eczema Relief Body Cream

Price: $18 for 14 oz

Available at: Amazon, Target, Walmart, and most drugstores

Why you’ll like it:

  • This is my current favorite body cream for any dry patches that try to sneak up on me in the colder months (usually on my hands, wrists, upper arms, and ankles). It’s thick but not as thick as the Eucerin Original Healing Rich Cream

  • Can relieve dryness and provide all-day hydration with its mix of glycerin, ceramides, and soothing colloidal oatmeal

  • It’s designed for eczema-prone skin but there are no steroids in it so it can be applied to the skin every day. It’s also fragrance-free

5. La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+M Triple Repair Moisturizing Cream

Price: $20 for 13.5 oz

Available at: Target, Walmart, Ulta, and most drugstores

Why you’ll like it:

  • A rich cream that absorbs nicely into the skin and leaves my skin feeling moisturized for a long time. I’ve noticed that when I apply this cream on my hands they still feel moisturized after washing them multiple times

  • Contains some fantastic ingredients to fight dryness, including shea butter, glycerin, ceramides, and niacinamide

6. Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream

Price: $19 for 16 oz

Available at: Target, Walmart, Ulta, and most drugstores

Why you’ll like it:

  • A fragrance-free non-greasy moisturizing cream that is a great option for someone with more sensitive skin

  • Includes skin-loving ingredients like niacinamide, panthenol (Vitamin B5), glycerin, sunflower seed oil, and sweet almond oil to help support a strong and nourished skin barrier

7. Vanicream Moisturizing Cream

Price: $16.50 for 16 oz

Available at: Amazon, Target, Walmart, and most drugstores

Why you’ll like it:

  • This is another body cream that was created for people with sensitive skin. A fragrance-free, dye-free, and gluten-free body cream

  • Formulated to improve “dry skin associated with atopic dermatitis (eczema), psoriasis, ichthyosis, and winter itch”

  • The whole Vanicream brand is focused on skincare for sensitive skin! I’ve used most of their products and found them to be super gentle and effective. I love their gentle cleansing bar and facial moisturizer!

That wraps up this list of rich moisturizing body creams that give you lasting hydration and help you fight dry, ashy skin.

Let me know which of these body creams you’ve tried, which ones you want to try next, or if you have another body cream that leaves your skin moisturized all day!
